“People, me included are lazy,” says a Web Developer, Joe Tortuga said. And ease of use is inversely related to security. If it’s just difficult, people won’t just do it.”
Even the least of the online security measure we adopt is to develop a password; sometimes the password is not just strong enough to confuse the hacker who tries to steal your information. A secure password should contain different information that creates the hassle for the hacker even if such hacker uses a spoof.
This kind of behavioural pattern lingers over time, refuting positive changes. And the earlier you start changing approaches, the better.
In some cases, when signing up for a particular service on the internet, users use their real names and emails which is an online approach which many internet security experts kick again.
“What happens is that you build up an online profile of yourself across several sites that hackers can use to guess your weak passwords,” says Murphy Shaun, CEO of Online Security Agency, PrivateGiant.
It is imperative to create different usernames for different websites even if you want to sign up for anything. Add a differentiation model towards your usernames and password, that way you give a hacker stricter time to steal anything confidential to you.
Another aspect of security that is important this year is the online payment method. A large chunk of individuals use their credit to make payment online, but 2018 has to be different. You should start using a more secure payment system such as Google Wallet, PayPal, etc. They have stronger and reliable security systems and encryption method.
“I figured that PayPal has a vested interest in not getting leaking credits,” says Tortuga, “and will do better than me, a programmer who doesn’t know much about it on some random sites. The less that information is out there, the smaller the attack surface is”.
Some experts like Murphy argue that using a credit card to make purchases is just archaic and out-dated. “Using our ancient credit card system breaches the online world divide; that makes it even easier for criminals to steal information.”
