I personally believe that more Nigerians should be using our own. ng domain extension. Below are some reasons why you should consider this seriously:

If you ask me, it is a smarter strategy to protect your brand name by buying a local domain that matches your own generic domain extension. For example, if you are from Nigeria or based in Nigeria, then you should own the .ng extension of your brand. You may not know this, but most top tech companies that you know own versions of their brands in various TLDs.

Local Targeting

I admit that the dynamics of Search Engine Optimization has changed in many regards, but there are still certain strategies that work, such as using a domain extension to target local audiences.

Faster Response Time

If you use foreign hosted domain and hosting services, here is what happens when you visit such website; the request is routed abroad through different servers, depending on certain factors before it comes back. Along the line, a lot of time is wasted and this may not be known to you but to visitors to your site.

National Pride

Have you noticed that most organisations in the UK use .co.uk while most in South Africa use .co.za? It is a matter of national pride for them. It is believed that if we get more of our local companies to use our own .ng brand, then, it will be better for our National pride.

  2. I think all the reasons listed above why nigerians should use .ng domain extension are valid. I encourage nigerians to use .ng domain extension instead of foreign domain extension as a show of our national pride and identify as nigerians. Due to the information I have gathered from this post whenever I want to open a website I will make sure I use .ng domain extension and I will also spread the word.

    • Sure, I decided to type ‘techsmart’ on my browser and tons of .com, .net came out,i had to scroll to the last page to see this one, but when I included .ng, it came first, having .com needs you to a lot of work on SEO

  5. It’s good to promote our own. No 2 and 4 are very primordial to me. I use Google.ng. It makes easy for one to get content related to Nigeria only and gives me pride to know Nigeria is recognized in the Internet world
